Mr. Solomon Stephen Huebner was Emeritus Professor of Insurance, Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, University of Pennsylvania. A student of insurance, teacher, and prolific writer, he was a major force in the development of insurance education in American universities. Among other innovations, he is known for originating the concept of "human life value", which became a standard method of calculating insurance value and need. He established the goal of professionalism in the field of insurance and made outstanding contributions to the progress of adult education in this area. His major text, which became a classic, was Life Insurance.

Some say that his efforts raised the professional and ethical standards of the insurance industry in the 20th century as no other. The University of Pennsylvania maintains the prestigious Huebner Foundation to promote isnruance and risk management education and research and sponsors the world’s leading Ph.D. program in insurance economics.
